This tutorial will teach you how to change the background color from the default gray to any color you want.

Set-up

Step one - Open Maya.

Step two - Go to window>settings/preferences>color settings.

The Colors Window

This window allows you to change any of the colors you see in the Maya interface. It may be fun to customize but it's important to know where the default settings are. In the color window go to edit>restore to defaults.

Now let's change the background.

In the general tab in the colors window, roll down to the tag 3D view. Now simply click on the color splotch and select the color you want to use as the background color of your view port.
